About Danny WaxmanMr. Dan Waxman is a layman Soto-Zen teacher. He is an indoor disciple of the Zen-teacher Prof. Masunaga Reiho. He went to Japan in 1958, and there learned, Zen, Judo, and Ninjutsu for 13 years, between the years 1958-1984. He is now 70 years old and has three children. He also holds 6th Dan degree from the Kodokan Judo institute and a 15th Dan in Ninjutsu. Since September 1994, he has been giving regulars weekly Zen lessons in Tel-Aviv. There, we sit Zazen, do Kinhin, and then Sensei reads from the writing of Dogen Zenji or from his teacher's writings, and answers the students' questions. Afterwards we enjoy drinking tea and eating cake together, and the session ends. Danny also teaches Zen at his home in Moshav Ein-Ayala, a village near Mt. Carmel. Danny, together with his Zen student Ofer, has translated 3 books of Prof. Masunaga from English to Hebrew. Danny wrote a Zen Book which it' title is "Zen Questions and Answers". The book is based on his talks during zazen sessions along the years of practice. The book was published in Hebrew in May 2000. Ofer have translated this book from Hebrew to English. Some of the Questions and Answers are presented in this site. Our hope is that it will be possible to publish the book in other languages such as English, Japanese, Spanish, and so on. Mr. Danny Waxman also teaches Let-go Judo and Ninjutsu. About Danny Waxman' book: 'Zen - Questions and Answers' :The book is based mainly on the Zen-talks that Mr. Waxman held with his students over the years. It contains 70 Questions and Answers about Zen. The length of the questions varies from few lines to a page. It is a relatively short book. It gives direct answers to many questions that Zen trainees or people with interest in Zen might have, during their first years of encounter with Zen. Besides the questions and answers about Zen, the book contains few important essays: 'Fukanzazengi - Rules for sitting in Zazen', written by the Zen teacher Dogen Zenji and translated by Prof. Masunaga Reiho, 'The role of Zen in the modern world', written by Prof. Masunaga Reiho, and more. Dan Waxman goals in publishing this book are to promote Zazen training and the understanding of Dogen's Zen, Shobogenzo and Prof. Masunaga's teachings. |
